Two Superpowers I Wish I Had

February 19, 2017
I have a question for you..
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

Your imagination is such an amazing thing.  Imagination keeps your brain active, and you create things in your mind that are not real.  I think everyone at some point has wished they had a superpower.  Would you like to live forever, have super human strength, move objects?  We have all imagined what our world would be like and what we can do with our superpower.

I love watching children play. They run around acting like their favorite superheroes.  They are fearless when they are pretending to fly or possess whatever superpower their favorite hero has.  They run around with all of this self-confidence and feel they have the power to save the world and protect the people they love. They are in the magical moment of their imagination and get lost in the wonderful land of pretend.  It is a pretty awesome thing to see.

Here are some superpowers that I think would be pretty awesome to have:
Invisible - Want to get out of a sticky situation, puff you are gone. Want to kick someone in the ass, they won’t even know it was you ;) Want to make extra money, you can smuggle drugs in.  On the positive side, you can use it to catch a thief or protect people who are in danger, and the bad guys would never see you coming.  Want to see a show you can’t afford, you can see it as many times as you want and grab yourself the best available seat in the house for free.

Time travel – Here is one of my favorites.  I have always wanted to travel back in time to meet and spend time with family members or go back to certain periods of time to check out the fashion, run wild with the Gatsby crowd, go visit Hemingway in Cuba or fall in love with a real knight who lives in a castle.  Some people would like to change their past and some of the things they have done in their life.  Some of us want to know what is going to happen in the future.  You could observe history being made or even alter it.

Fly – If you are not afraid of heights, you can fly as high as the sky.  From New York to Paris, no problem, just fly away and you can go anywhere you heart desires.  Eliminate travel costs and fly anywhere you wanted to go.  Escape city traffic, and the cost of paying tolls, gas for your car or E-ZPass.  Say goodbye to waiting for the bus or subway…like a bird, you are on your way.

If I could have a superpower, I think I would want to have a superpower to heal.  This superpower would not only be for healing wounds or to heal the common cold, but it would be so super I would be able to heal any disease, so fuck off cancer!
I am sure you have many more ideas of what superpower you would like to possess.  Close your eyes and imagine one of them…dream and enjoy.  It might take you out of your head for a little bit and give you a fun break.

Why F*ck Is The Best Word In The English Language

Why F*ck Is The Best Word In The English Language

Absolf*ckinglutely.

To be honest, the word fuck is my favorite F-word. Sorry mom, but it is true. Whether or not you use the word, or ever plan to use the word, the word fuck is the most versatile word. I once heard that swearing is a normal part of human speech development, and some of us heard the f-word a lot growing up.
According to Wikipedia, the word fuck is an obscene English language word...its origin is obscure, but the word can be used as a noun, a verb, an adjective, an interjection, or an adverb. There are many common phrases that will emphasize the word, as well as compounds that incorporate it. So, depending on how I use it, the tone of voice and what other words I use around it will determine the reaction I get. Now, you are probably saying, what the fuck are you talking about, get to the fucking point...okay, quiet the fuck down, here you go you fuckers.

The power of a word. To some people, the word fuck is one of the most horrifying words you could ever use. Others may not see it that way and feel that other words are more non-appealing and disrespectful. Let's face it, fuck is a powerful word.

Here are some of my favorites below. It was fucking hard to pick a few. ;)

Fuck This Shit - Reaction to this is that you just have to say fuck this shit every now and then, it makes you feel better. People I say it to will always agree.

What The Fuck - WTF - Reaction to that is usually a WTF back, which I am usually like fuck this.

Shut The Fuck Up - Reaction to this, well, if you live in Manhattan, someone has probably already told that same person to STFU that you were going to say it to. Hence, fucking problem solved.

Fucking Fuck - There is something about saying fucking fuck that just cracks me up. Reaction is they laugh because I am usually laughing as I am saying it, you fucking fuck.

Fuck Yeah - When I am totally down for something, the word fuck will just make it official. The reaction is like I put a fucking flame under someone's ass...it gets them moving.

AbsoFuckinglutely - I like to put an emphasis on certain words, just adds a little more character. Absolutely is a great word, but put fucking in the middle of that word or any word you like, you just spiced it the fuck up. Reaction to this is that I usually get a fucking enthusiastic fuck yeah back.

Most people swear, and if you don't swear, chances are you will hear someone swearing. Here is a little fun fucking fact, swearing knows No social boundaries in its expression, so for those who are disgusted by certain words, get the fuck over it...live a little, get fucked, get fucked up, you will thank us later. Have a fantastic fucking day and remember, you are all fucking amazing!

Read my latest article @ The Muddled Millennial -Childhood Memories

Childhood Memories

Good or bad, we all have childhood memories.  There are some of us who would like to go back in time and freeze some of those moments and the people we love so they can stay with us forever.  Since the passing of my father, I have had a lot of childhood memories come flooding back.

We moved to Brooklyn when I was around 2 years old.  We lived on Euclid Avenue, and I loved that house.  I thought it was the best house in the world.  It was in that house, and in that neighborhood that some of the best childhood memories that I have were created and will always live with me.

My house on Euclid Avenue:

Anyone who grew up in Brooklyn can remember having the greatest block parties.  The street was closed off to all cars, the long picnic tables were lined up with the plastic table cloths, and there was a ton of food on each table.  With a collection of all heritages from the neighborhood, you had a taste of the best food ever. The fire hydrants were opened and you ran around playing with your friends free as a bird, and without a care in the world…ah, to be free and careless again.  That day you were family rather than a neighborhood.  My childhood friend Mary lived a few houses down from me. She came from a wonderful Polish family, and it was in her home that I tried my first pierogi.  It was my first bite of something that was not Italian, and I loved it.  Her mom handmade these fruit-filled pierogies, and it was a big treat.

I can remember the different smells of food that came from the homes of my friends and family.  Both of my grandmothers also lived down the block from us and always had a bowl of spaghetti with homemade sauce and meatballs waiting for me on the table when I came over.  I can still taste it when I close my eyes and think of it.  If my uncles were home, you were treated to a big hearty Italian sandwich that was layered with cheese, salami, ham and anything else that they could fill it with, and it was bigger than your head…I would eat the whole thing.  My father’s best friend lived a few blocks away with his wife and three boys who I called my cousins. I remember there was always something fun going on in their house.  I loved to hang around my favorite cousin, Guy. Anything he did I had to do, and he always liked an adventure. He ran fast, he rode his bike fast; the faster the better and I was right behind him keeping up.  He was always up for getting out of the house and doing something in the neighborhood.

I remember playing with those high-bounce Pinky balls that you would get in the dime stores, roller skating on the slate sidewalks, jumping rope, playing hopscotch, running after the ice cream truck, eating Italian ices or those long ice pops, (otter pops) that came in all different fun colors, being in the backyard pool with family and friends on the hot summer days and nights that never seemed to end. I never wanted to get out of the pool, my dad was convinced I was a water bug.  Something about time went a lot slower then.
I remember how young and beautiful my mother was…she still is beautiful.  My brother who was born in that house had these chubby cheeks with his beautiful blue eyes that all the girls loved.  I remember always feeling safe in that house.  I remember how handsome and strong my dad was…he was still strong and brave until his very last day.

Your childhood memories are some of the most important memories that you hold close to your heart.  They are moments that tell your story.  You play, grow, laugh, learn and imagine.  I have heard some of my friends saying they wish they could go back and be a kid again when they are reminiscing about things that bring a smile to their face.  I am hoping for most of you, your memories were good memories that put a smile on your beautiful faces when you think of them.

Read my latest article @ The Muddled Millennial -Why it is Important to Love

Why it is Important to Love

January 25, 2017
To the men, I have once loved, and to the one, I love now...if you could see yourself through my eyes, you would know how amazing you are. When I love, I love hard.  It is who I am and it is something I can't change.  My joke is that I am searching for the doctor who can remove that cell in your brain that makes you fall in love without anything else being altered, and I have not yet found a doctor that can do that.  All kidding aside, when I love it makes me feel the most alive and has given more meaning to my world and who is in it.  It makes me happy.

I recently told a special someone, if you could see yourself the way I see you, you would know that you are amazing and capable of doing everything and anything.  He looked at me with his big eyes and smiled at me a thankful and humble smile.  What is it that makes us look at someone and feel that they are this amazing human when we are with them?

They say the feel good hormone "oxytocin" enhances your bond with the person you are attracted to. Well, I must produce a shit load of oxytocin for myself and the universe.  They have tons of books on love, experts who claim to be love guru's, rules on what to do and what not to do if you love someone.  I mean do we really need to pay people or read a book on how to love...love is our True Nature.  Unfortunately, society, family, religion, rules that were put in your head, expectations, your ego...the list goes on, all play a part.  It is not easy.

The truth is that we all do not get back the love we give, so it is first important to love yourself.  Some people are just not capable, and that can Suck big time.  You will not be able to give what you don't have, and you are not able to receive what another person does not have to give.  It sounds easy and makes sense, but when your emotions are involved, it does not make any sense to you, and love is not that simple. It is important to remember when you love yourself, you can love and give to others.

At the end of the day, who you love and how you love is your business.  We are responsible for our choices and our actions.  We are all capable of only so much and some people are more capable than others.  Keep on loving!  The real test of love is shown through actions.  Kindness and compassion come from the heart, so let your heart motivate you and others...like I said, love is our true nature so go out there and spread that love around.  I know that I have left a  beautiful imprint on a heart or two.  They were very lucky.

Congrats! You met your kindred soul, better half, true love, the object of your affection or erection...you get the point! You are now ready to take that big step. When speaking to my married friends on what is the success behind a happy marriage, they told me they have done some pretty amazing things on their own before they got married. Here are some of those things that every woman should do before settling down.

Live on your own -Freedom and being able to do what you want when you want is great. Learn to get to know yourself and get comfortable in your own skin along with having the freedom to dream, create and explore your passions. Taking care of yourself enhances your confidence in your own worth and ability. Learn how to cook - Besides the fact that you need to eat, you become more aware of what you are putting in your body. It saves money and most of the time more healthy than eating out. It also impresses the opposite sex, and they say food is the way to a person's heart.

Travel - Travel is the best teacher, and exploring other places is an amazing experience. You have the freedom to go where you want and make all the decisions. By going to a new place, you gain a new perspective on your life, and you get to meet some great people.

Spoil yourself - It is nice to do for others but to do something for yourself that you love is even better. Loving yourself should be a priority and you deserve it, so indulge a little.

De-clutter your life - Mentally and physically de-clutter your life to get the wonderful things you deserve. So go on and get rid of things you do not need in your home, and get rid of your fear, frustration and any emotional clutter you have to move forward and appreciate what you have.

Donate your time - Doing for others makes you feel great. Not only will you be helping someone or an organization in getting things done, it can teach you new skills...never too old to learn something new and feel good at the same time - that is a bonus.

Spend time with your parents - They can be your toughest critics, but at end of day, they are your biggest cheerleaders. Your parents will not be around forever. I just lost my dad, and I am truly happy that I went to visit them every chance I could. That is priceless.

Pursue hobbies - Your life should be rewarding, and you should do what you like in your spare time. Go and support your interests while you have the time to do the things that you like.

Hang with your friends - Your friends make you laugh and give you reasons to be happy. They are there for you to share your good and bad times with. You can be real with them and they give you a reality check. Share good times with good friends that you will always have.

Do what makes you happy -Tap into what makes you the happiest. We are all busy and can forget what makes us happy...the art of being happy is to take time to do those things and not put them off whether it is sports, traveling or seeing your friends. Do what makes you happy.

Make sure you are marrying for the right reasons - Being in love, having realistic expectations and having the desire to share your life with someone is amazing. Do not marry out of desperation or because you are feeling pressured.

The one piece of advice that my good married friend Joanna told me that I thought was the most important ingredient to it all, was to make sure you love who you are first so you know what you deserve. I know for sure that we all deserve the best!

Your Long Distance Relationship Will Be Worth It, If You’re Willing To Work At It -Check it out on Thought Catalog

Article that I wrote for Muddled Millennial was just recently published on Thought Catalog - check it out on link below:

http://thoughtcatalog.com/dawn-dephillips/2016/11/your-long-distance-relationship-will-be-worth-it-if-youre-willing-to-work-at-it/

I have had a few long distance relationships in my time, and I can tell you that some of them were worth it, and have met some great men. I will be the first to tell you that long distance is hard work, but anything in life that is good does not come easy.
My good friend E and I were talking about this recently, and he said that long distance relationships are very sensitive and difficult. They take an enormous amount of effort. He said there has to be a happy medium and you lose out on the “real-time” companionship. On that note, I feel that technology makes long distance a little easier. With Skype and Face Time, it allows for face-to-face communication. You get to know the person by talking to them and getting to really know them to know if they are worth it.
It becomes more than physical. You always get mixed reviews from people. You will always have the friends who are positive and would be happy for you if you were in love with an antelope, and there will always be the Debbie Downers “wah-waah”, who will be negative and discourage you.

As you know, everyone has an opinion and it is up to you not to let those opinions affect your relationship.

If you are in a relationship where you are a few hours away or a few time zones away, you are in a long distance relationship. If you both care enough for each other, you can make anything work. It’s your relationship…enjoy.
Chemistry plays an enormous role, and I always say the heart wants what the heart wants, and some of the time you do not pick the person who lives next door. I have always loved to travel and have met the most amazing people in my traveling adventures, and when the person you love is your destination then that makes traveling to see them even better. Traveling to see them or traveling to new places together, you will find out if you still like them after a few days together. I know I have had the most memorable vacations with that someone special.

Long distance makes the heart grow fonder and you have something to look forward to.

You will value messages from your partner and have things to catch up on…no small talk. If you are like me and have always loved “me” time, you will never feel guilty. It has given me time to get to know and love me by finding out who I am by having my own life. It is easy to lose yourself in a relationship. In any relationship, it is important to remember you are your own person. I know you are thinking that if you don’t see that person every day you can develop trust issues. Well, the truth is, you can have trust issues when you see that person every day. It is the experiences you have that build your relationship together and become better people.
No matter what situation you are in, if you put your heart and soul into your relationship, it can work, and having a long distance relationship should not change that.
My advice, in a world where there are options and not enough time to do everything, be efficient with learning who you are. Find the person that is right for you no matter where they are. Find what works for you and what you are and are not compatible with. Everyone that comes into your life can enrich your life. Be honest, communicate and open about what you want and need, and distance should not change that. Life is short and there are thousands of cities…happy and safe long distance dating.
