December 2, 2016 | Dawn DePhillips

Congrats! You met your kindred soul, better half, true love, the object of your affection or erection...you get the point! You are now ready to take that big step. When speaking to my married friends on what is the success behind a happy marriage, they told me they have done some pretty amazing things on their own before they got married. Here are some of those things that every woman should do before settling down.

Live on your own -Freedom and being able to do what you want when you want is great. Learn to get to know yourself and get comfortable in your own skin along with having the freedom to dream, create and explore your passions. Taking care of yourself enhances your confidence in your own worth and ability. Learn how to cook - Besides the fact that you need to eat, you become more aware of what you are putting in your body. It saves money and most of the time more healthy than eating out. It also impresses the opposite sex, and they say food is the way to a person's heart.

Travel - Travel is the best teacher, and exploring other places is an amazing experience. You have the freedom to go where you want and make all the decisions. By going to a new place, you gain a new perspective on your life, and you get to meet some great people.

Spoil yourself - It is nice to do for others but to do something for yourself that you love is even better. Loving yourself should be a priority and you deserve it, so indulge a little.

De-clutter your life - Mentally and physically de-clutter your life to get the wonderful things you deserve. So go on and get rid of things you do not need in your home, and get rid of your fear, frustration and any emotional clutter you have to move forward and appreciate what you have.

Donate your time - Doing for others makes you feel great. Not only will you be helping someone or an organization in getting things done, it can teach you new skills...never too old to learn something new and feel good at the same time - that is a bonus.

Spend time with your parents - They can be your toughest critics, but at end of day, they are your biggest cheerleaders. Your parents will not be around forever. I just lost my dad, and I am truly happy that I went to visit them every chance I could. That is priceless.

Pursue hobbies - Your life should be rewarding, and you should do what you like in your spare time. Go and support your interests while you have the time to do the things that you like.

Hang with your friends - Your friends make you laugh and give you reasons to be happy. They are there for you to share your good and bad times with. You can be real with them and they give you a reality check. Share good times with good friends that you will always have.

Do what makes you happy -Tap into what makes you the happiest. We are all busy and can forget what makes us happy...the art of being happy is to take time to do those things and not put them off whether it is sports, traveling or seeing your friends. Do what makes you happy.

Make sure you are marrying for the right reasons - Being in love, having realistic expectations and having the desire to share your life with someone is amazing. Do not marry out of desperation or because you are feeling pressured.

The one piece of advice that my good married friend Joanna told me that I thought was the most important ingredient to it all, was to make sure you love who you are first so you know what you deserve. I know for sure that we all deserve the best!

Your Long Distance Relationship Will Be Worth It, If You’re Willing To Work At It -Check it out on Thought Catalog

Article that I wrote for Muddled Millennial was just recently published on Thought Catalog - check it out on link below:

http://thoughtcatalog.com/dawn-dephillips/2016/11/your-long-distance-relationship-will-be-worth-it-if-youre-willing-to-work-at-it/

I have had a few long distance relationships in my time, and I can tell you that some of them were worth it, and have met some great men. I will be the first to tell you that long distance is hard work, but anything in life that is good does not come easy.
My good friend E and I were talking about this recently, and he said that long distance relationships are very sensitive and difficult. They take an enormous amount of effort. He said there has to be a happy medium and you lose out on the “real-time” companionship. On that note, I feel that technology makes long distance a little easier. With Skype and Face Time, it allows for face-to-face communication. You get to know the person by talking to them and getting to really know them to know if they are worth it.
It becomes more than physical. You always get mixed reviews from people. You will always have the friends who are positive and would be happy for you if you were in love with an antelope, and there will always be the Debbie Downers “wah-waah”, who will be negative and discourage you.

As you know, everyone has an opinion and it is up to you not to let those opinions affect your relationship.

If you are in a relationship where you are a few hours away or a few time zones away, you are in a long distance relationship. If you both care enough for each other, you can make anything work. It’s your relationship…enjoy.
Chemistry plays an enormous role, and I always say the heart wants what the heart wants, and some of the time you do not pick the person who lives next door. I have always loved to travel and have met the most amazing people in my traveling adventures, and when the person you love is your destination then that makes traveling to see them even better. Traveling to see them or traveling to new places together, you will find out if you still like them after a few days together. I know I have had the most memorable vacations with that someone special.

Long distance makes the heart grow fonder and you have something to look forward to.

You will value messages from your partner and have things to catch up on…no small talk. If you are like me and have always loved “me” time, you will never feel guilty. It has given me time to get to know and love me by finding out who I am by having my own life. It is easy to lose yourself in a relationship. In any relationship, it is important to remember you are your own person. I know you are thinking that if you don’t see that person every day you can develop trust issues. Well, the truth is, you can have trust issues when you see that person every day. It is the experiences you have that build your relationship together and become better people.
No matter what situation you are in, if you put your heart and soul into your relationship, it can work, and having a long distance relationship should not change that.
My advice, in a world where there are options and not enough time to do everything, be efficient with learning who you are. Find the person that is right for you no matter where they are. Find what works for you and what you are and are not compatible with. Everyone that comes into your life can enrich your life. Be honest, communicate and open about what you want and need, and distance should not change that. Life is short and there are thousands of cities…happy and safe long distance dating.

These Foods Can Actually Increase Your Sex Drive

October 28th, 2016 | Dawn DePhillips

Can food really increase your sex drive? I found that the foods below can help with your sex drive and stimulate the psyche, and since the brain is the largest sexual organ in the body, let’s get on it. If cupid had a fork, he would be serving some options from the menu below…eat up my friends.

Eggs -An Egg A Day Keeps Your Libido Going All Day:
Want to encourage morning sex, eat eggs for breakfast. Eggs are high in vitamin B6 and B5 and can help with keeping the stamina in the sack. Go on and scramble up or eat a hardboiled egg to keep your energy up and maintain your hormone levels.

Oatmeal -The Testosterone Booster:
Oatmeal contains an amino acid called L-arginine which helps pump blood flow to your body and to your sex organs. It increases testosterone which is the main factor in both men and women for sex drive and orgasms in the bloodstream.

Maca – Natural Viagra:
Maca is a root that is available in powder form that many people add it to their smoothies as a health booster. The maca plant was used by the Peruvian culture to increase energy levels and stamina. Maca can help with hormonal balance and help increase the libido along with helping to enhance fertility.

Iceberg Lettuce -The Green Aphrodisiac:
Iceberg gets a bad rap because they say it lacks nutrients, but what you might not have known is that it contains opiate which is an aphrodisiac, and helps activate sex hormones in both men and women.

Chickpeas – Yes Please:
Chickpeas contain phytoestrogens with estrogen like effects. They are also rich in antioxidants, vitamins and amino acids that will increase the blood flow and boost internal lubrication.

Oysters – The Classic Love Drug:
Oysters have been known to improve dopamine levels that will boost the libido in men and women. They are also high in zinc, which is known to give a boost to the sex hormones and healthy sperm.

Sweet Potatoes -A Carb Worth Eating:
Sweet potatoes are rich in potassium that help lower your blood pressure. They are also rich in beta carotene that load up the body with plenty of vitamin A, which is known to promote better cervical fluid that will can help boost fertility.

Avocados -The Sexy Shaped Fruit:
The ancient Aztec’s nickname for avocado was the testicle, because of the fruit’s shape and how they tend to hang in pairs from the trees. They have been known to have aphrodisiac properties that keep stamina levels up and can help with erectile dysfunction.

Figs -F Is For Fertility:
Known as a sensual food due to their resemblance of the female sex organs. Figs are considered excellent stimulants in helping with fertility.

Watermelon – The New Viagra:
Watermelon contains citrulline that your body converts into arginine, which is an amino acid that helps to relax the blood vessels that increase your sex drive as if you took that little blue pill. This juicy red libido booster has many vital nutrients for sexual health.

Pumpkin Seeds – The Libido Vitamin:
Pumpkin seeds are loaded with vitamins and minerals that are great for your libido. They contain vitamin B, C, D and K. They also contain these great minerals such as potassium, calcium and niacin. They are also high in zinc which is essential for healthy sperm and preventing testosterone deficiency in men.

Almonds -Omega-3 To The Rescue:
Essential for reproductive health, almonds are rich in zinc and selenium. The omega-3 fatty acids stir up those juices, and also help with boosting blood circulation.

Chilis – It’s Getting Hot In Here:
Chilies contain capsaicin which is known to rev up your libido. They also promote the release of chemicals that promote circulation and can raise your heart rate, giving you a double the pleasure of a mood and libido booster.

Basil -The Scent Of Desire:
Not only does basil boost circulation by speeding up the heart, but the intense aroma of basil will increase your sexual desire. The scent of basil has long been associated with arousal.

Vanilla – The Scent of Lust:
Vanilla is known as a natural sex driver booster. The scent of vanilla can increase lust. They say that adding it to your diet can increase your sexual appetite. As early as the 18th century, they claim it was given by doctors to increase male potency.

Cinnamon – Pour Some Cinnamon On Me:
Cinnamon increases the body temperature and increases sexual urge. It also can help to normalize blood sugar levels. Cinnamon is considered to be one of the most effective natural aphrodisiacs.

Cocoa/Chocolate -The Pleasure Chemical:
The cacao beans are where chocolate comes from, and have more antioxidants than red wine. It also contains the chemical phenylethlamine that is known to stimulate the sense of excitement…ooh la la I
knew I loved chocolate for a reason.img_0033
You can’t go wrong with these healthy natural foods that also will make you look and feel great. So, what are you waiting for…go stock your pantry and boost your libido and Enjoy every meal!

Life Lessons You Learn in The Real World

October 4th, 2016 | Dawn DePhillps
All of us have spent more time than needed sweating over things that you did not need to worry about.  Life lessons are called that for a reason, they are your biggest teacher so use that education wisely.  Since there are so many lessons we learn from life, here are some of the ones that have helped me grow and continue to grow into the person I am today.

Be Fearless:
Fear will always hold you back. You will need to step outside your comfort zone or you will never move forward and grow.  Fear is only in your mind and we allow it to control our dreams, goals and our happiness.  Most things we fear will never happen.  The most interesting thing I have seen on the word Fear is when you spell it out -FEAR  = False Expectation Appearing Real.  Be fearless and be the best you can be.

Money Will Never Make You Happy:
I have met many people who have very little and live happy lives and have met many people are living on a lot and are miserable. Don’t expect what you can buy to make your life happy or better.  Happiness comes from within and money can’t buy that.  If you are lucky enough to have a lot, be generous to others who need it.

best-day-of-your-life

Get Rid Of The Rules In Your Head:
Get rid of the rules in your head on how things are “supposed” to be. You will miss out on opportunities because of your ego or what you think is supposed to happen or be happening.  It can only exist if we believe in them. Get rid of the rules and think positive things for yourself.  Your thoughts and beliefs create your reality.

Do Not Try To Please Everyone:
We all want to belong, be respected, valued and liked.  Not everyone is going to like you, and you don’t need everyone to like you. Don’t expect others to give you the validation you seek -that comes from you.

Don’t Take Your Health For Granted:
Health is something we need to appreciate, nurture, and protect. A lot of us tend to take our health for granted.  Eat well, get enough sleep and take care of you – mentally and physically  Take time for you.

Things Don’t Always Work Out:
Some of the time things just do not work out the way you want them to, and that is okay.  At the time you are not able to see the bigger picture, but enjoy the ride because at the end you will see that those setbacks were leaps forward.

Trust Your Instincts:
It is your natural feeling of something, and most often always right.  Don’t doubt yourself, go with what you feel and don’t second guess it.
trust-your-instincts

Have Patience:
If you got everything you wanted all at once, you would not appreciate any of it.  Good things take time and we need to learn how to give it time…it will happen.

Slow Down:
Try not to rush into things and see where it takes you. Enjoy everything, and stop to look around and enjoy what is around you. Don’t allow yourself to miss your life as it passes you by.

Appreciate The Simple Things In Life:
Simple things can be cherished.  Hearing children laugh, stopping to smell a beautiful flower, holding the hand of someone you love, listening to your favorite song. The list can go on. Simple things are beautiful, appreciate all of them.

Pay Attention – Not Everything Is About You:
Pay attention to what is going on around you.  It is not always about you.  By not taking things personally, will help keep things in perspective.

Perspective Is A Great Thing:
We can all lose our perspective because of things that are happening in our lives that are important.  Get perspective on the situation, let it go and move on.  The truth is, most of it won’t matter years from now.

Do Not Take Anything Or Anyone For Granted:
We all know that saying, we don’t appreciate what we have until it’s gone.  You think you have plenty of time, but we really don’t. Remember, nothing in your life is guaranteed to be there tomorrow and life can change in an instant.  Appreciate what you have now.

appreciate-everything-that-you-have-20130124395

Appreciate And Be Grateful:
Be appreciative and grateful for right now and what you have at this moment because right now is all there is.

Love:
Love hard and love often.  Someone once told me that those who are not the easiest to love are the ones who need to be loved the most – they were right.  Love often for your heart is your biggest compass.

Love And Believe In Yourself:
The secret to happiness is the acceptance of yourself. When you love yourself, you do not need the approval of others.  There will be many that will tell you that your ideas or dreams can’t be done…it can be done, believe in you.  If you don’t believe in yourself, either will anyone else, so please love and believe in you – you are worth it!

Be Kind:
It is just as easy to give a smile to a stranger or be kind to someone than to be unkind…treat others the way you want to be treated with kindness. It is more important than being right. You never know what someone else is going through.

Forgive…Let It Go:
It is the best thing you can do for you.  Holding on to anger or resentment is like drinking poison and wanting the other person to die. Don’t let your heart be heavy…let it go, get out of the past.

There Are Different Levels of Intellect:
I have met some extremely intelligent people who do not have any social and emotional skills and have met people who did not graduate high school with more social skills and common sense.  Intelligence is not just about IQ.

honesty

Be Authentic and Honest:
Being authentic keeps you real – honor who you are so you can give your best to yourself and others.  When you are not being true to you, you feel it in your gut because you are not connected to your true self.  Be brave and come from the true place within that has no fear, just the truth.

I read once a life lived for tomorrow never comes, a life lived for yesterday never changes but a life lived for today is full of wonder and mystery.  I wish you all to live a full happy life and enjoy each precious moment.

Latina entrepreneur creates the key to LuMesh lip gloss radiance (video)

LuMesh lip gloss has ended the times when women had to struggle to keep their lip gloss in place and attractive. A notable brand owned by beautiful Lu Camarena Meshulam, LuMesh lip gloss  is  a permanent solution to regular and bothersome touchups stopping the anxiety to never know if you look like a celebrity at all times!

LuMesh lip gloss

No one can deny that one of the most fascinating features on women are those lustrous lips painted with different sultry colors. For quite some time, there has been a sizzling revolution in the make-up industry. Lu Meshulam is one of these trailblazers in this industry who has continuously provided women with the required weaponry in LuMesh lip gloss and mascara products ensuring that their lips and eyes retain a dazzling shine and gorgeous look throughout the day.

Meet the Founder

Lu Camarena Meshulam, CEO and founder LuMesh

Lu Meshulam has always had a life-long passion for creating and enhancing the natural beauty of others. This talented make-up artist has always been fascinated by cosmetics ever since her childhood, when her mother’s makeup routine enhanced her natural beauty, even after having a hectic day at work.
She is a driven entrepreneur and an inspired make-up artist who is working with top celebrities such as Gladys Knight, Nicky Hilton, and Dylan Lauren. Being of Mexican background, she was exposed to the challenge of achieving shades for different skin tones. Lu Meshulam developed successfully a knack for crafting products that suits virtually every skin tone that allowed her to work with clients of different ethnic backgrounds and ancestries. Lu Mesh site is bilingual in English and Spanish.

About LuMesh lip gloss

Tech-savvy LuMesh lip gloss is made with plant-sourced vitamin-rich ingredients that help minimize any sign of aging on your lips. It is also enriched with vitamin E (an antioxidant) which has a mild non-irritating plumper. This hydrating lipgloss goes on smoothly, moisturizes and softens while you wear it. LuMesh lipgloss has a handy mirror on the side of the tube, the handy mirror is an additional perk that enables you to touch up your make-up.

LuMesh products currently consist of a line of lip gloss, lipsticks and a mascara.  Some of the shades of LuMesh lip gloss include ‘Kalie’ (a soft peachy nude), ‘Trischa’ (a light pinky nude with a hint of peach), and ‘Min’ (a bluish toned bright pink). LuMesh lip glosses have a shimmer, and a sponge tipped applicator.
Most of these shades can be worn by women with different skin tones. LuMesh lip gloss has a creamy consistency and last longer than an average lip gloss, they are flavor and fragrance free which enhances the feel of your natural lips.
LuMesh products’s quality has made most people antsy about new products expected to be released soon.

Launching at major stores in the East Coast

This past August, LuMesh launched at 60 ShopRite stores throughout the US East Coast.

LuMesh lipsticks

“After eight years of knocking on doors and thinking outside the box, I was able to position myself and my products at a major brand name store that has embraced the line. I’m proud to say that not only I’m the first Latina who has totally created, developed and owned a make up line but also the first to launch at a major store next to brands like Maybelline, Cover Girl, Revlon and others,” Lu told LatinasinBusiness.us.

Lu believes that ShopRite is a natural alliance for her luxury brand as it is known to carry quality products. “I care about the consumer, and I have not compromised the quality of my line just to  be carried by a store that offers quality products at a reasonable price. They took my line as their exclusive line and I will personally promote it, as I speak for my brand,” she explained.

She does not sell herself as a celebrity make up artist although she has worked with many of them.
“These products were created for people like myself. I started out with Latinas at heart because we are not getting what we need. I realized that we have all skin colors and shades and wanted to unite them under one unique line of products,” she said. “I need your support; I created this line with the Latina woman in mind so I can guarantee that you are going to like it,” she concluded.

Gift Idea’s For Your Guy - read my latest article at https://themuddledmillennial.com/2016/09/15/gift-ideas-for-your-guy/

Gift Idea’s For Your Guy

Whether he is a Millennial tech geek gadget guru, culinary genius, sports guy or just the guy who happens to have everything, buying a gift for your guy can be difficult. You can’t go wrong when you choose a gift by personality and hobby, and by knowing what your guy likes or needs will let him know how much you care.  Majority of the men I have dated were sports guys, and surprising them with Super Bowl or World Series tickets were always a big hit.  I feel that men appreciate the simple gestures and feel cared for when you are thinking about them and do thoughtful things.  So, if you need some ideas for a birthday or the holidays that will be coming up, below are some gift ideas for your guy.

Throw him a surprise party and get his old high school friends and other friends he has not seen in a while to show up and turn it up on his special day.  If you can’t get everyone together, you can do a group video message by contacting all his friends and family members to record a small video.  Your guy will be surprised to see all of the closest people in his life all on a video together.surprise-party
A home cooked meal is simple and will make your guy feel cared for when you are taking the time to cook his favorite dish.  Make a date night at home he will never forget, and take care of every detail.
Take him shopping and show him how to dress and look great.  Not all, but most guys are not paying attention to style trends and do not know how to match their clothes up.  They will end up having a wardrobe that looks great on them and they will look hot for you.

Put together a coupon book…sex is one way to spend time with your guy and make fun sexy memories together.  Be creative like putting together I.O.U. sex coupons.  I can guarantee he will be wanting to redeem them!
coupon-book-for-bf
Take him to one of his favorite sporting events, or buy the tickets and give him a night out with one of his buddies. You can also search for something rare and unique like signed memorabilia from his favorite athlete or his favorite team.

Sign him up for a beer, wine or scotch of the month club.  Their favorite one will get delivered to their doorstep once a month, and they get to try all different varieties and become the best at-home bartender.

Go away together…find an affordable vacation to a place you both have been wanting to visit and go.  You will have the memory of an amazing vacation place that you spent quality time together at.
I recently found a great website that makes it easy to get a gift for your guy – check it out here at http://www.mancrates.com/gifts-for-men.  They say ‘no’ to ugly neckties, cologne samplers and executive trinkets. They don’t save wrapping paper, they don’t do ribbons. They are Man Crates, and deliver awesome gifts for men.  Check them out to find a great gift idea for your guy.

They say it is the thought that counts, but when you put some thought and consideration and have taken the time to think about your guy and their personal interests, then it is from the heart and your guy will love that you did this all for him to make him feel special.

Are Destination Weddings Worth it? Read my latest @ The Muddled Millennial - https://themuddledmillennial.com

Are Destination Weddings Worth it?   Read my latest @ The Muddled Millennial - https://themuddledmillennial.com/
Written by Dawn DePhillips

Many years ago I was invited to a destination wedding in Ireland. Unfortunately, it was not in my budget at that time, so I missed out on seeing my friend get married in the land of lucky charms. When I finally did get to go to Ireland with friends for vacation, I remember thinking that I should have found the way the make it happen back then.

Destination weddings are more popular than ever. Personally, I would do a destination wedding because I love to travel and I think it would be an adventurous and unforgettable experience. Some of the guests might not agree, but it is a day dedicated to the couple and if they decide to do a destination wedding, the couple and their guests can experience a new culture, cuisine and scenery that would be unique and not be forgotten.

Destination wedding venues have package deals that are created by professional wedding planners. My friends that have had a destination wedding have told me they just needed to make a few decisions and the rest was taken care of. Most of the heavy lifting was done by the staff at the resort. Simplicity was key for the bride and groom who did the planning from afar, and trusted the professionals to do their magic. At the end, they were very happy with the results. For couples tying the knot, a destination wedding can be more affordable than a local wedding. There are package deals and discounts all depending on the size of the wedding group. Guests pay for their own way and their accommodations. There is no doubt that this might be a financial burden to some of your guests who will want to be a part of your special day, or more like special “week” if it is a destination wedding. Some of your guests that you really want to attend might not be able to make it, so you will have to take the good with the bad. If the most important people you want at your wedding are not able to make a destination wedding, you may have to choose a venue closer to home.

If you go with a destination wedding, it can be an amazing and memorable experience. You and your guests can feel like you are on a mini vacation, and if you decide to have your destination wedding on the beach, that will provide for a unique setting with wedding pictures that will be beautiful.

I once read where 60% of guests will attend a destination wedding compared to 85% attendance to a local wedding. My friend confessed that they were able to shrink the guest list and not worry about family drama, and the couple were able to have the smaller and intimate ceremony they wanted to have. The truth is that this is the most important and happiest day of your life, so take the time to weigh the pros and cons carefully while planning.

To those of you that are planning your special day…destination wedding or local wedding, happy planning and wishing you a lifetime of everlasting love and happiness.

Everyone deserves an unforgettable experience of pampering and a total escape for the mind, body, and soul. With the pressures of everyday life, we can forget to take care of ourselves, and you deserve to splurge on you! If you are dedicated to wellness, you will spend money on things you value. Luxury spas are the ultimate haven of rejuvenation and tranquility. There are plenty of websites that can help you find a luxury spa package with a deal that will not break your budget, compare prices with other luxury spas and book the one that is right for you. Luxury spas provide pampering at luxury levels.

Luxury spas have the latest innovations with great products and treatments along with wellness and fitness programs. Whether you want to de-stress or detoxify, they have expert staff on hand with a state of the art facilities that can provide a range of treatments, or personalize a program for you to meet your individual needs and give you the perfect spa experience. The list of treatments are endless, but if you plan on getting a deep tissue massage, warm stone treatment, a full body scrub or a rejuvenating facial, they are focused on providing you with a treatment that will improve your mental and physical well-being, and taking good care of your body and mind is essential for harmony and balance.

I have been lucky enough to experience some luxury spas from the Four Season’s in New York, Canon Ranch in Arizona, Mision del Sol in Cuernavaca, and the Excellence in Punta Cana, and they were all hands down one of the best luxury spa experiences I have had. As soon as you enter the spa you feel relaxed. The soft spa music is playing, and the room is calm and tranquil, You are greeted by a welcoming staff member with a glass of champagne or a beverage of your choice. You are then taken into a room where you are provided a private locker to put your belongings and you are given a plush robe with comfortable slippers to wear so you can change and feel relaxed. There are steam rooms and relaxation areas to sit and relax after your treatment where you can enjoy a variety of herbal teas, refreshing cold water or fresh delicious fruits. Every room you go into has a relaxed vibe. The treatment rooms are quiet with dimmed lights, flickering candles and warm scents that set the stage for your treatment. The rooms have comfortable tables with soft blankets to lay on. The smells of soothing essential oils automatically put you in a trance. You leave feeling relaxed and fresh and with soft skin that still lingers from the intoxicating blends of the oils that were used.

Everyone deserves a little pampering now and then, so if you are in need of some pampering, consider planning your next trip to a luxury spa. After all, you deserve it!

Visiting Miami

150x150.png

Read my latest at www.storychick.com

I love Miami!  I am fortunate to have a very good friend who lives there, so when I visit, I experience the best of Miami.  The minute I get off the plane, I feel alive.  The beautiful culture is so diverse and rich it gets under your skin and in your blood.  Miami is nicknamed the “Capital of Latin America” because it is the second largest Spanish-speaking city.  Miami ranked fourth nationally in top destinations for millennials, so whether you visit with friends or family, you will have a fun time with the great shopping, delicious restaurants, amazing art galleries, beautiful beaches and more.

First let’s start with the weather—every day is a beach day.   On a sunny day along the beautiful Atlantic waters, you can swim, surf, or jet ski.  And if you do not want to do any of that, you can just relax on the beach or by the pool and work on your tan while watching all the beautiful people.
Miami is well-known for having some of the top artists.  Art Basel offers public art that has attracted leading galleries and collectors. If you want to check that out, Art Basel will take place December 1- 4, 2016.  Art Basel has called Miami Beach its home since 2001 and showcases over 250 galleries from 31 countries and takes place at Miami Beach Convention Center.

Where art is found, fashion is not too far away.  There are plenty of great malls and shops in Miami. You can find luxury retailers in the design district, chic boutiques in South Beach, and great stores on Lincoln Road.  Being a huge tourist city, there are plenty of shops for just about everything.
After the sun, art, and shopping, you will definitely be hungry, and there are the best mouth-watering restaurants that offer an unforgettable dining experience.  A lot of the restaurants draw inspiration from Latin American cuisine and the Cuban culture infuses Miami’s dining scene as well.  Whether it is fresh-caught seafood or locally-grown vegetables, the cuisine is delicious and varied.
To check out what restaurants are hot right now, I found this link below for The Hottest Restaurants in Miami Right Now, June 2016:

After dinner, if you are looking for a sexy and vibrant scene, Miami has some of the best bars and clubs for a great place to end an evening.  New York might be the city that never sleeps, but I think Miami is right behind it.  There is a never-ending list for nightlife that is open until the wee hours of the morning.  So if you are looking to have a good time, you can always find a great party going on with live music or great DJs.  There is so much to choose from, so whatever vibe is calling your name, call ahead to get your name on a guest list and go enjoy.

There’s constantly something to do in Miami no matter what time of the day or night, and it is impossible to see everything because Miami attractions will dazzle your senses with all of the above.  Whether you are planning a family vacation or a visit with friends, you will create great memories that you will not forget. Viva Miami and enjoy my friends!

How Much Sleep Do We Need?

150x150.pngRead my latest @www.storychick.com

I think we have all heard that saying that you can sleep when you are dead.  Well, since dead people do not require sleep, how much sleep do the living need?   Studies found that Millennials sleep almost nine hours per night on average, and that is way more than the previous generations. However, in another article they claim they are the most sleepless generation yet.  Bottom line, it seems that nobody really has the answer to the question on how many hours of sleep we need.  They say that the amount of sleep you need changes as you get older and it is a personal thing—some of us might need more than others.  I know, there is so much to do and so much to see, and we all want to do everything we can in the shortest amount of time. We want to enjoy and get it all in.  Well, relax—we also need to sleep.  There are days I can function on a few hours of sleep, and there are days I feel like I can stay in bed for a few more hours.   I feel that as long as you wake up feeling refreshed and you feel your best, you have slept enough hours.  Bottom line is—the amount of sleep you need is unique to you.

Truth is that we have all screwed with our body clocks by traveling, working long hours, staying out late, waking in the middle of the night to eat or go on our smartphones, iPads or whatever device you use. Those devices all emit a light that suppresses the production of melatonin which is the main hormone that controls your body’s day and night cycle.  We are living in a society of instant gratification whether you are texting or on social media, and a lot of us can’t get off our devices and take them to bed with us.

If you are not sleeping enough, don’t panic.  The reality is that most people manage to get by just fine on less sleep from time to time, and if you have one of those nights when you do not get enough sleep, try not to worry about the next day being a shit show because this will probably only keep you awake longer.

Here are some things you can do that will help you sleep better.  Exercise a few hours before bed.  I know when I take my friend’s spin class, I sleep like a baby on those nights.  If you are caffeine sensitive, cut caffeine after 2pm.  If you do not want to exercise, take time to wind down before you go to bed by doing things that are relaxing to you, or listen to relaxing music. Eliminate the light from your room, and turn off the TV and your devices.  Distract your imagination.  Visualization can help focus your imagination away from distracting or negative thoughts.  Another thing that might be helpful is using aromatherapy that can help with calmness and serenity.   You can use a lavender scented mist spray on your pillow to have a calm peaceful sleep.

So whatever you do to help you sleep and however many hours you sleep, as the day turns into night, I wish you all sweet dreams my friends because in dreams there are No Impossibilities.

Healthy Snacks & Cool Cocktails

Healthy Snacks & Cool Cocktails

Summer is finally here, and the beach and pool parties are calling your name along with the family get-togethers, vacations, and lazy days at the beach or pool.  So how do you stay healthy while enjoying?  Here are some ideas for healthy snacks and cool cocktails to enjoy.
First, let’s start with some easy healthy snacks to make for a party or just enjoy as a guest.  A healthy snack can offer many health benefits and can be included in a weight-loss plan by choosing a mix of carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats, and will keep your energy levels consistent.

Bruschetta
An easy party favorite.  Top a small slice of Italian bread with a mixture of tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and basil. The tomatoes contain lycopene which is a powerful antioxidant, the olive oil helps your body absorb the nutrients in the tomatoes, the garlic is packed with antioxidants, and the basil contains Vitamin K, Iron, Calcium, and Vitamin A. So these tasty little bites not only taste good but are packed with some great things for your body.

Vegetables and Dip

Load up your plate with the veggies, and don’t forget to enjoy the creamy ranch dip.  Vegetables contain a strong source of Vitamin A, and studies show that adding a little bit of fat to your veggies helps the body absorb the nutrients.

Cheese

I think everyone loves cheese.  Well, at least I know I love it.  They say that women require 1000mg of calcium a day.  Hard cheeses such as cheddar have more calcium, and one or two good-size chunks can give you about 120mg, so go get your calcium.  You can pair with some fresh summer fruit and get in that Vitamin C along with the Calcium.

Watermelon and Prosciutto Skewers

Watermelon is a natural diuretic and good for hydration, so enjoy a skewer of refreshing watermelon with your choice of meat or cheese.  On 6-inch skewers, thread 3 pieces watermelon with 1/2 slice prosciutto folded between each.  You can drizzle with balsamic glaze just before serving.  You can substitute with lean bacon or pancetta or you can use goat or feta cheese with the watermelon if you do not want to use meat, and it is just as delicious.

Mixed Nuts

Enjoying a few small handfuls of plain nuts can keep you full with the protein and give you a nice dose of vitamins, fiber, and protein. Sunflower and pumpkin seeds are high in vitamin E that is good for circulation, skin, and even PMS.

Yes, you can enjoy a couple of cocktails and still feel good in your bikini. Try some of these low-calorie cocktails below.

Ruby Red Grapefruit Cocktail
This refreshing sparkling grapefruit cocktail recipe has gin, Campari, fresh grapefruit juice and seltzer. The Campari gives this drink its beautiful red color, but you can omit if you prefer a less bitter drink.  Stir grapefruit juice, seltzer, gin and Campari together in a pitcher.  Fill glass with ice and top with the cocktail mixture. Garnish with grapefruit, if desired. 121 calories per serving.

Cucumber & Melon White Sangria
To create this delicious healthy cocktail, use fruity white wine, zesty liquor, and a lot of fresh fruit and basil—crisp and refreshing.  Combine wine, vermouth, melon, cucumber and basil in a large pitcher. Refrigerate until cold, and stir in seltzer just before serving. Serve over ice. 146 calories per serving.

Grapefruit Basil Martini
Here is a low-calorie cool cocktail that has some added benefits of vitamins and antioxidants.  It consists of basil, grapefruit juice, sugar-free sweetener syrup, gin, and sparkling wine. In a shaker, muddle basil and syrup.  Add syrup and gin and shake with ice for 20 or so seconds. Strain ingredients into a glass with ice and top with sparkling wine. Garnish with a grapefruit twist. 161 calories per serving.

Mimosa Lite

Enjoy this light and fruity cool cocktail.  4 ounces champagne, juice of 1/2 medium-size orange.  Add several ice cubes to a glass, squeeze the juice of the orange into the glass. Pour in orange tangerine juice followed by champagne and stir. Garnish with fresh orange rinds. 120 calories per serving.
When All Else Fails—Wine (Red or White)

Red wine is chock-full of polyphenols that can help lower blood pressure and promote overall heart health.  White wines contain flavonoids that have antioxidant properties.  The sweeter wines will have more calories than the dry wine.  You can always cut your calories in half by ordering a spritzer which is half wine, half seltzer.  125 calories for 5 fluid oz of wine, approximately 80 calories if you have the spritzer.

So whatever your choice for a healthy snack or a cool cocktail, enjoy and wishing you all a great summer!
